My husband, Ken, didn’t have a lot of experience with babies before our firstborn, Lindsay, arrived. During her first year, as she discovered and learned new things, he was learning right alongside her.
When Lindsay was ten months old, Ken was watching her while I finished some work down at my desk in the basement. He called down the stairway, “What should I do? She’s trying to go down the stairs.” I told him, “Oh! My mom says we have to teach her how to go down on her tummy. Then, she’ll know how to do it safely.”
With that bit of coaching, I absently turned back to my work. But ten minutes later, Ken said, “Honey, I’m not sure how this is ever going to work….”
