Comparison is often an unwelcome guest. There you are, minding your own business, when—bam. You’re suddenly wondering why her kids are turning out so perfect or why your husband doesn’t buy you new clothes, or whether you weigh more than every other woman in the room.

So what should you do, when comparison starts bullying you into a corner of isolation? My most basic advice is this: Learn to listen to the voice Jesus. Not the world. Not your enemy. And not yourself. Listen to Jesus and let his words matter most. If you open your Bible and look at the red letter verses (which mark Jesus’s words), you’ll not find him telling you you’ve got to measure up or get ahead. In fact, He repeatedly teaches just the opposite.

Here are some quotes from my book Comparison Girl to get you started. I hope they’ll be an encouragement to you, the next time you’re tempted to compare.
